ABOUT NINA…

Singer, songwriter and performer Nina Garcia began her musical journey at the age of nine, when she performed along side her mum, dad and brother, as fiddle player and singer in their family folk rock band, The Sydling Stompers. The group played many varied gigs and supported the likes of the Dubliners and Davey Arthur from the Fureys. They recorded two albums and were favourites at well known events such as Guernsey International and Sidmouth Folk Festival. By the time Nina had turned fourteen, she had been featured on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Folk on 2’, had performed twice at London’s renowned music venue, the Mean Fiddler and was a favourite at the Green Room Club, in the West End. She was also booked to appear at the London Docklands Festival.


1996

Nina formed Celtic rock band ‘Jigsaw’ in 1996. Along side her brother, well known Dorset based fiddle player, Benny Wain, she toured the UK extensively, performing six nights a week. She turned her hand to composing original material for the group, who were proud to perform at Kilburn Irish Festival, London supporting Shane McGowan and the Popes. Jigsaw recorded an album and were invited to Red Bus Studios, London to feature on an O’Neills compilation, where they were offered a contract with Sony. During this time, Nina was also lead vocalist in Jazz quintet ‘Section 5’.


1999

1999 saw the beginning of a seven year musical career based in Phuket, Thailand and Singapore. Predominantly lead vocals and fiddle player, as part of a Celtic pop line up, Nina was also lead vocalist in a Jazz funk band, along side four of Thailand’s finest musicians. Again, performing six nights a week, to audiences from across the globe.


2010

Back on home soil, in 2010 Nina embarked upon a solo career as ‘Nina Garcia – Fiery Fiddle Driven Celtic, Pop and Party’. She currently performs River Dance style jigs and reels and sings cover songs from many genres. She has performed numerous times at Southampton and London Boat Show, the Royal Hampton Court Garden Festival, for our Royal family and in recent times, performed in Nashville, Alabama, Amarillo USA and Wellington, South Africa.


2013

Nina composes and records her own material and was head hunted in 2013, by well known composer for TV, Leigh Haggerwood, to sing with the highly acclaimed ‘Florin Street Band’ on their Christmas release, ‘Winter Wonder’.


2016

During 2016, Nina was commissioned by St Margaret’s Hospice UK, to write their charity song, entitled ‘Making Each Day Count’.


2022

America based ‘Walk on Part Productions’ commissioned Nina to write songs for their new musical ‘Tolpuddle’ which has premiered in Montgomery, Alabama in May 2023.


2023

Nina is currently planning a project with Nashville based Grammy and Dove nominated, Juno award winning producer Roger Ryan of Aftertouch Music. Her track ‘It’s Ok To Not Be Ok’, a song to raise awareness and understanding about Mental Health has been released. It is recognised and congratulated by Prince William and Heads Together Mental Health Campaign. There’s plenty more to come so watch this space! This is an exciting year in Nina’s musical journey!
